The Good Shepherd, Jesus, loves his own sheep. He cares for them and holds them in his arms, close to his heart. Sadly, sometimes Jesus’ sheep get abused by others, including those in “the church”. This drawing of the Good Shepherd holding a lamb in his arms is for the healing of all his sheep that have been abused by man, especially by men in “the church”.

Artist’s Reflection:

“God is love.” (1 John 4:16)

“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” (Isaiah 40:11)

“Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.” (Psalm 28:9)

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me–just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep…My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:10, 14-15, 27-30)

This picture came to me during a time of prayer in God’s precious presence. I could clearly see the great love Jesus, the Good Shepherd, has for his sheep. There is only total love, acceptance and gentleness in his embrace. There is no rejection, hatred or anger towards his sheep but only love.

Some of his sheep have been battered, abused and wounded by others, but Jesus the Good Shepherd goes after his sheep and binds up their wounds and heals them. He loves them and carries them close to his heart always.

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23)

“‘For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness…I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak..” (Ezekiel 34:11-12, 14-16)
