“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work” (1 John 3:8). At the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden, the Lord told the devil that Jesus would, “…crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (Genesis 3:14-15). This drawing came out of a powerful time of spiritual warfare when Christ trampled Satan underneath my feet.

Artist’s Reflection:

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” (Romans 16:20)

“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15)

“So the LORD God said to the serpent [Satan], ‘Because you have done this [deceived Eve into sinning against God],…I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he [Jesus] will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:14-15)

I got the idea for this drawing after a very intense and frightening dream where I was being attacked by demons. In my dream I began to pray and praise God to defend myself. I woke up in the midst of it, but I still felt attacked and overcome with fear so I continued to pray and praise God. After awhile, my oppressors were defeated by the glorious power of God. His thick presence filled the room and so did my praise! I felt the victorious power of Christ and praised him for his victory over Satan through the cross and for his victory in my battle. (This is the same dream which inspired the work “The Power of Praise” (Spiritual Warfare, Victory, Freedom, Healing Series).)

The reason why I included broken chains in the drawing was because, in my dream, a ball and chain of bondage to fear was shackled to me. In my dream I took a very large sword, “…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17), and said, “In the name of Jesus, I break you off of me!” I swung the sword, and the shackle was broken.

Jesus can break the power of any bondage or addiction, no matter how heavy the chains may be or how long someone has been shackled. Sometimes when we have been in bondage for a long time we stop believing that we can be set free. This particular night Jesus showed me the truth experientially–I can be set free of anything through him.

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
