“See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals. Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne…” (Revelation 5:5-6)
Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, but he is also the Lamb of God. (See “The Lion and The Lamb” (The Lion of Judah Series)).
Jesus is omnipotently powerful:
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” (Psalm 147:5)
Yet he is also gentle as a Lamb
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29)
He is infinitely strong:
“One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.” (Psalm 62:11-12)
Yet his love reaches to the heavens
“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” (Psalm 36:5)
Jesus is full of justice
“Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep.” (Psalm 36:6)
But he is also full of grace and truth
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
In this drawing, I wanted to capture the majesty, power and strength of the Lion of Judah as well as his gentleness, love and grace. In my own life, I know Jesus to be full of these attributes.
These Lion of Judah drawings were featured on the covers of Geoff Waugh’s Lion of Judah series of books. The books describe the titles, reign, life, death, resurrection and Spirit of Jesus. Please see The Renewal Journal website for more information on the books:
