The Lion of Judah Roaring

Lion of Judah roaring artwork image. This charcoal drawing of the Lion of Judah roaring is an illustration for a book about Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. It's based upon the Bible verse Revelation 5:5 "See, the lion of the tribe of Judah...has triumphed."

“See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.” (Revelation 5:5)

“The LORD roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem…” (Amos 1:2)

“This is what the LORD says to me: ‘As a lion growls, a great lion over his prey–and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against him, he is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor–so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.” (Isaiah 31:4)

Jesus is called “The Lion of the tribe of Judah”, which symbolizes his majesty and strength. In this drawing I wanted to capture the energy and power of the Lion of Judah roaring his victory over sin, death and the devil.

When Jesus was apprehended by the Jewish authorities in the Garden of Gethsemane, and later, by the Roman authorities, the devil rejoiced. He thought he finally gained control over the Son of God. I’m sure the devil unleashed his full hatred against our precious Savior as he influenced the soldiers, priests and people to beat him and mock him. The evil minions shouted for joy as our Savior was nailed to the cross. And when Jesus finally died, all the powers of darkness thought they had actually triumphed by destroying the LORD God Almighty.

But three days later…

The heard the sound of THE LION OF JUDAH ROARING HIS VICTORY OVER SIN, DEATH, HELL AND THE DEVIL!

Satan was defeated, his power stripped away and his kingdom plunged into ruin! (1 John 3:8, Colossians 2:15).

“See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.” (Revelation 5:5)
