CHRISTIAN FINE ART GALLERY > WORD OF GOD SERIES > Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away, but My Words Will Never Pass Away (Matthew 24:35)

Original Artwork: 104cm x 56cm (41″x 22″), Paper Collage on Cardboard

God’s Word, the truth, will stand firm even when this present heavens and earth have passed away. God’s Word will endure throughout eternity.

Artist’s Reflection:

  Jesus said:

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

“It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law [God’s Word].” (Luke 16:17)

“Your word, O LORD is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89)

God’s Word (the Bible) is the eternal, immutable reality.

In a sense, God’s Word is an infinitely more concrete reality than the material universe that surrounds us, for the present heavens and earth will soon be destroyed, but God’s Word will endure forever (2 Peter 3:1-13, Revelation 20:11, 1 Peter 1:23-25).“The Son [Jesus] is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” (Hebrews 1:3)

This collage features the heavens and the earth being ripped apart as the Word of God stands firm forever. The words written across it are excerpts from two passages of Scripture. The first is from Matthew 24, where Jesus prophetically speaks about the End Times, including the destruction of the heavens and earth. The second is from Revelation 21 and 22, the detailed prophetic account of the first heaven and earth passing away and the new heaven and new earth being made manifest.

The following is written on the artwork:

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars…such things must happen, but the end is still to come…there will be famines and earthquakes…See, I have told you ahead of time…Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away… (Matthew 24)

“Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them…books were opened…the dead were judged…Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…” (Excerpts from Revelation 21 and 22)

*The NIV 1984 translation of Matthew 24, which I used for this work, says “famines and earthquakes”. I mistakenly wrote “earthquakes and famines” on the artwork and was unable to remove it. It’s not a big mistake that alters the meaning, but I wanted to clarify to remain wholly faithful to the Word of God.
