We are so blessed to have the Word of God, which is the truth, as a lamp to our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105). The Word of God saves us from taking wrong paths and navigates us back to the straight and narrow way when we have wandered.

Artist’s Reflection:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” (Psalm 119:130)

“The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.” (Psalm 19:8)

God’s Word (the Bible) is truth (John 17:17). It is reality. If we do not live our lives in accordance will God’s Word, we will stumble around in the darkness, either wandering aimlessly or recklessly down the wrong path (often hurting ourselves and sometimes others in the process!)

The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12).

This painting describes a particular time in my life as a young Christian. There were ways I was taking that once seemed right to me (false teaching in the church), but the further I went down them the more I realized they were wrong. By the time I came to this realization, however, I was in the middle of a thick, dark mist and very, very lost. Though God was still with me, I felt helpless. Dismayed, I didn’t know how to find my way back to the right path because I had traveled so far down the wrong one.

After stumbling around in the darkness for a little while, I realized that I had to completely ignore all my feelings and fully rely on the Word of God alone as my guiding light. Sure enough, as soon as I did, the lamp of God’s Word faithfully guided me back onto the right path. It set my feet upon the narrow road with God once again, where rest, joy and peace are abundant. Praise the Lord!
