CHRISTIAN FINE ART GALLERY > WORD OF GOD SERIES > Manna (Exodus 16)

Original Artwork: SOLD, Acrylic on Canvas

Manna pointed forward to Jesus Christ, the bread of life (John 6:35). Whoever comes to Christ will never hunger nor thirst but will have abundant, eternal life (John 6:47-48).

Artist’s Reflection:

Manna was the daily bread that God miraculously provided for the Israelites during the forty years of their desert wanderings (See Exodus 16). It is symbolic of Jesus, “the bread of life who came down from heaven and who gives life to the world” (See John 6).

The deepest hunger people have isn’t for food but for God.

And we all search for the ‘thing’ that will take away the aching emptiness in our souls. We often try to satisfy this hunger with other things, such as marriage, children, family, friends, material possessions, pleasure, a career, achievements, spirituality, even ministry, etc. However, none of these things can truly satsify us (See John 4:1-42). The only thing that can fill our God-shaped-void is a loving, personal relationship with God! (See Message.)

Part of the reason why God led the Israelites in the desert for forty years was to humble them and to teach them that, in the dry, inhospitable, unsustaining, unproviding land they were travelling through, God alone would satisfy and sustain them and supply all their needs. It is an historical allegory of our own lives.

“He [God] humbled you [the Israelites], causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” (Deuteronomy 8:2-3)
