Giant daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare) are very common wildflowers in Minnesota. They are native to Europe and Asia but have been introduced to North America. They are also known as ox-eye daisies and grow in meadows and open canopy forests.
These giant daises were growing along the St. Louis River in Jay Cooke State Park in Minnesota’s northeast. Jay Cooke State Park is one of Minnesota’s most popular parks, particularly because of its beautiful 13 mile (21 km) rocky gorge and swinging bridge. The St. Louis River rushes through the jagged slate, creating beautiful rapids and white water. The St. Louis River is a root beer brown color from the tannin coming from pine trees.
