This prairie sunflower (Helianthus petiolaris) was growing on the epic ascent out of Bighorn Basin. Our van was hauling the “little house” camper behind us. It wasn’t doing so well up the long, steep ascent, so we pulled over to give it a rest and a road check. Sitting on the side of the road, I had nothing better to do but admire the flowers in front of me, including this prairie sunflower, growing so happily with its 5 star view of the Bighorn Basin.
