Wellington Park contains a large network of walking tracks and fire trails that not only provide access to Kunanyi / Mt. Wellington but also to other mountains that provide spectacular views of the Huon Valley, the Derwent Valley and the surrounding mountains.
This shot was taken from the summit of Collins Cap, one of the mountains in the Wellington Range. The warmth of sunset gives way to evening shadows, casting perfect light upon the hills and mountains surrounding the Derwent Valley north of Hobart.

Nearly everything I have learned about photography and photo processing I have learned from my teacher, Terry Pinfold. Over the years, he has gone far above and beyond my normal expectations of a teacher by generously providing me with much additional personal instruction.
In the lead up to a photography trip I was taking through the Canadian and American Rockies he kindly agreed to go on a bushwalk with me in order to tackle a number of practical field questions that were too difficult to explain over email. We decided to venture into Wellington Park and climb up through Myrtle Forest to shoot sunset from the summit of Collins Cap.
On that trip he taught me new ways of thinking about and solving photographic problems which I continue to incorporate into my practice today.
This photograph of sunset over the Derwent Valley was one that I took that day, and it is one of my favorites. Whenever I look at it I am reminded of the generosity of my teacher, who gave me the skills to capture it.
