CHRISTIAN FINE ART GALLERY > THE GOSPEL SERIES > II. The Wages of Sin (Romans 6:23)
ONFS, Acrylic Painting on Paper
We have all sinned against God, and because God is just, he must punish us for our sins. He declares the just punishment for our sins is death and hell. However, even though we are sinners, God still deeply loves us and longs to redeem us; therefore, he made the way for us to be saved from our sins and their consequences.
Artist’s Reflection:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Sin has grievous consequences. Not only do our physical bodies die but our spirits will also bear the eternal punishment for our sins in hell.
“Each person was judged according to what he had done…the lake of fire is the second death…If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:13-15).
God is perfectly just when he judges us; however, he takes no pleasure in condemning anyone. Rather, he earnestly desires our redemption. Therefore he has provided the way for us to be forgiven and reconciled to him: through repentance (turning away from sin) and faith in Jesus Christ. This is the “good news” of the gospel.
“‘Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then, can we live?’…’As surely as I live declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways. Why will you die?’…” (Ezekiel 33:10-11).
