“David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.” (2 Samuel 6:14-15)
“And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness…only the redeemed will walk there, and the ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.” (Isaiah 35:8-10)
“…praise him with tambourine and dancing…” (Psalm 150:4)
It is the greatest joy to know God, to be loved by him and to experience all his goodness in our lives! Sometimes when that joy just cannot be contained, it comes out through dancing. I wanted to do a drawing about this, and I thought who would be better than King David, who danced before the Lord with all his might (See 2 Samuel 6:12-23)?
One of my favorite songs is Martin Smith’s “The Happy Song” (1994 Curious Music? U.K./PRS/Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing). I praised the Lord again and again to this song the whole time I drew these pictures. I could dance a thousand miles because of his great love for me!
The joy that welled up inside of me and inspired these drawings was the joy of coming out of “churchianity” back into a close relationship with Jesus again. (See “John the Baptist Artworks Series”).
The Happy Song
I could sing unending songs of how you saved my soul
I could dance a thousand miles because of your great love
My heart is bursting Lord to tell of all you’ve done
Of how you’ve changed me life and wiped away my past
I want to shout it out, from every rooftop sing
For now I know that God is for me not against me
Everybody’s singing now, cause we’re so happy
Everybody’s dancing now, cause we’re so happy
If only I could see your face
See you smiling over us
And unseen angels celebrate
The joy is in this place
