God’s presence is the only place where we’re ever meant to be. We were created to worship God and be in union to Him through Jesus Christ. For this purpose we exist, and it is in this place alone that we find where we truly belong.
Artist’s Reflection:
“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb [Jesus] be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’ The four living creatures said, ‘Amen,’ and the elders fell down and worshiped.” (Revelation 5:13-14)
The idea for this painting came after a very powerful time I had in worship. God’s presence with me was very strong, and I communed as one with Him. “But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Worship is our expression of love to God.
There is nothing that I can say about this place other than it is the only place where we’re ever meant to be. We were created to worship God and be in union to Him through Jesus Christ. For this purpose we exist, and it is in this place alone that we find where we truly belong. The night before he died on the cross to reconcile us back into this relationship with God, Jesus prayed:
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.” (John 17:24)
It is also the only place where we will ever find true contentment. It is what every person is searching for because God has designed our hearts to crave unity with Him. We will continue to go from one thing to the next, searching in vain for lasting contentment and fulfillment until we finally find it in Jesus. (See John 4). The descending dove in the woman’s heart is symbolic of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, through whom we worship God and enjoy communion.
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11)
