As believers we are created to soar in God’s presence in worship. Sometimes we go through difficult things in life, and if we allow these things to affect our relationship with God, it can break our wings. Instead of soaring with God, we find ourselves downcast and earthbound. However, God’s character is one of redemption, restoration and healing. Not only does he desire to heal our broken wings, but he also has the power to do so. As we repent and surrender to him, he will cause us to once again soar on the wings of worship in his presence.

Artist’s Reflection:

“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:17-18)

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

We were created to praise God. We were designed to soar like eagles on the wings of worship in God’s presence. This is where we are meant to continually dwell as believers.

Though our earthly circumstances change, God never changes. He is always worthy of our praise and worship no matter what we are going through here on earth. Through the Holy Spirit we can be empowered to worship the Lord through even the most horrendous of situations. See Acts 16:16-34 for a great example of this.

Circumstances cannot break our wings unless we allow them to.

Broken wings are not the inevitable result of going through difficult circumstances. On the contrary, choosing to stop worshiping God is what breaks our wings (though it is often painful circumstances that influence us into making that choice).

Thankfully, our God is a Redeemer and Restorer. That is his heart. He faithfully meets us where we are at and encourages us, rebuilds us, binds up our broken wings and heals them so that we may once again take to flight and soar on the wings of worship in his presence.

My drawing depicts an eagle taking off back into worship again. He leaves the old shadow of his broken wings behind (and the shackles of darkness that go with it, which represent the “spirit of despair” from Isaiah 61:3). The lion represents what is going on in the eagle’s spirit. Jesus is the “Lion of Judah” (Revelation 5:5), and Judah is the Hebrew word for “Praise”. Jesus is filling the eagle’s spirit with strength, praise and worship once again. This drawing is very similar in theme to “Lion of Judah Arising” (Praise and Worship Series 2).

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion–to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.” (Isaiah 61:1-4)
