Jesus told his disciples to wait to be “…clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49) so that they could boldly preach the gospel throughout the whole world. They received this gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. This painting illustrates my experience when Jesus baptized me in the Holy Spirit and empowered me to become a bold witness of his gospel.
Artist’s Reflection:
“I [Jesus] am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
The form in this abstract painting is the Holy Spirit descending as a dove in fire. It represents the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and references imagery from the account of the giving of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. It was directly inspired out of my personal experience of Jesus baptizing me in the Holy Spirit.
When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit I was clothed with power from on high and was unprecedently “set on fire” for God. My life radically changed that night, and I have never been the same. Ever since that time, I feel as if I’m flooded with God, full of Holy Spirit fire and power, a lot bolder in witnessing and more empowered to live out my Christianity.
When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit, I also found that my eyes were opened much wider to the spiritual realm. God instantly granted me a lot more sensitivity to and greater perception of spiritual things. The Lord also began to work some of the other gifts of the Holy Spirit within me (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
