This drawing is for the wounded, disheartened and discouraged worshipers and worship leaders. It is for all those who are trying to find their “roar” of praise and worship again. “Judah” is the Hebrew word for praise, and even when we may feel broken or down, the mighty Lion of Judah still lives and stirs within us believers.

Artist’s Reflection:

“See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.” (Revelation 5:5)

“No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The LORD their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them. God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. There is no sorcery against Jacob, no divination against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’ The people rise like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion…” (Numbers 23:21-24)

Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of  Judah. “Judah” is the Hebrew word for “praise”.

Whenever we feel broken or discouraged in the area of worship, this Lion of Judah (praise) still lives and stirs within us. Though we may give in to a spirit of despair for a time (Isaiah 61:1-3),  nothing can ultimately crush the Lion of Judah (praise) out of us. The fire of worship will always burn within us because his indwelling Holy Spirit will forever incline us to worship him.

But how do we find our “roar” of praise and worship again after we have been struck down?

One thing we must remember is that though our circumstances change, God never changes. Our King is eternally great and glorious and is therefore always worthy of praise…whether we be on the mountain heights or in the Valley of the Shadow of Death (Habakkuk 3:17-19, Job 1:20-21).Despite what might be going on on earth, praise and worship to the King of Kings is always going on in heaven (Revelation 4-5). Regardless of our circumstances, we can always choose to “join in” heaven’s continual praise by focusing on God’s eternal praiseworthiness.

“Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca [weeping], they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength till each appears before God in Zion.” (Psalm 84:4-7)

Furthermore, when we are trying to recover our “roar” in praise and worship again, we must remember that God’s love for us is the greatest catalyst for worship. Intimacy with God is what feeds the flames.

When we know our God and are completely confident in his love for us, we are a very powerful people! Power in worship comes directly out of intimacy with God. The deeper the intimacy we worshipers have with God, the greater the power in our praise and worship. (See “Restoring The Tabernacle of David” (John the Baptist Artworks Series 2) and “Worship: The Kiss of Intimacy (Praise and Worship Series 2)).

His love is what causes us to endure all things and to arise victorious as more than conquerors in all our adversities (See Romans 8:28-39). His love for us is what deeply touches our hearts to keep on praising him regardless of our circumstances (Psalm 69, Psalm 22).

As for my drawing, these people were once broken and wounded in the area of worship. However, their woundedness could not overcome their love for him. Their hurt could not hold them back from worshiping him again. As a response to this intimacy, the Lion of Judah is arising and roaring his victory amongst them once again.

“Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous; ‘The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things! The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things! I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.” (Psalm 118:15-17)

Despite all opposition they encounter, they rise ever victorious in praise and worship! Praise be to the Lord our God, for he is Sovereign King. He alone is worthy of all praise, and he rules and reigns above all!

The inspiration for this drawing partially came out of powerful times of praising God to a high exaltation song I wrote called “The Lion of Judah Reigns”.

(Thank you to the woman at Salamanca Market who suggested I do the Lion of Judah with a mane of different colors! Your suggestion was the missing link in a long search to find the right imagery for this drawing.)
